Its 2024...a new year, new frontier for changes and chances. Reflecting upon 2023, I've realized that the 2020's have done a number on us globally. The need to understand what that means and how can roll with the punches while riding the waves is essential for this decade. I often look to numerology (pythagorean method) for understanding and have come to this clarity:
2024 = 2 + 0 + 2 + 4 = 8
"8" is often seen as a karmic number which aligns to the saying, "you now reap what you have sown"
This saying is two-fold, as we have to determine what is that we have seeded from the last eight years (and even further back) and make sure that we are ready to receive the harvest of our work or be prepared to endure the challenges that we have allowed to accumulate and go unresolved. While an "8" year can be a time to accumulate wealth, gain inheritance and be awarded for your work, it can also be a time where you are asked to pay what is owed; property, taxes, and assets that are overdue in payment can see a year of troubles. With that said, further context to the numbers can helps us to understand how "8" will impact us globally and personally.
For 2 0 2 4...
"2" is the number of connections and relationships
"0" is the reset number for a new cycle
"2" again...connections and relationships and follows after "0" which can be interpreted to the renewal or reset of relations
"4" is about foundation and organization. The point of seeding.
...Therefore..."2024" is the year where relationships and/or connections to person, place, thing, or ideas is reset or renewed in order for newer connection and relationships can be established for the purpose of building a foundation, establishing growth and progress and/or organizing.
Now this may or may not apply to you but it seems to add up from my end of the perspective. I look at each number in the year and determine that the meaning of each number develops into a phrase or theme for this year. This is a personal method that I have adopted and if it works, by all means utilize it.
Now that I have provided this context I want to get back to this year of "herbal reclamation". This is an ideal year for the reclaiming of traditions and the roots of our cultures to enhance the better self and ignite the sparks of life we need to progress as the beautiful beings we recognized ourselves to be. In a society where colonial oppression and racism have prevailed, the ability to "heal thyself" by connecting with nature has its challenges. Whether its the ills of pollution or being unable to have access to quality seeds and soil, we have been restricted from our innate right to connect to the land and the growth that nourishes.
All is far from lost though...
We can reclaim our right in this year in various ways. Here are some that I would like to share:
Re-Connect with the Earth

Experience nature through your senses. Walk barefoot, smell the leaves, stare out into a natural view, feel the air, snow, branches, bugs...just put yourself in space of nature and find a moment of amicable connection without distraction of your phone. Nature is everywhere - from cityscape to the desert.
Re-Establish your "seeds" for progress

What are your long term goals and visions and how do you choose to make them a reality? Is there something you want to change? How are you envisioning yourself 4 months or 4 years from now? While long-term may seem like an arduous task of waiting, you'll be surprised of how long term goals benefit the future you. Get a planner this year and get to work on sowing the time ahead and your future self will thank you.
Re-Claim your life

Our society is riddled with health issues that threaten our ability to nourish our bodies without the risk of ingesting nanoplastics and other chemical-based ingredients that can eventually wreak havoc on our health. Invest in healthier methods for obtaining food. There is now a multitude of systems that allow for easy care of mini-gardens that can be located inside or outside the home. Lean more about your local farmers and purchase from them directly as well as local businesses that sell locally grown prroduce.
Re-Adjust your consciousness and awareness

Evaluate your way of thinking. Are you caught up in things that keep you distracted and disconnected from reality? Are you allowing yourself to become so stressed that you become depended on unhealthy habits? Lacking the balance you need to move forward in your life? Reprogramming your thought process to one that can embrace multiple perspective to determine what is most logical for you can contribute to the improvement of our mental and emotional well-being.
This list could be endless and is intended to be an initiator to your journey this year. For the global melinated majority, the herbal reclamation for this year is to maintain, sustain and redress the connections to nature through ancestral cultures and preserve the importance of not only taking back but to also pay forward to the Earth and those who continue to care for her.
Happy New Year!
